Christmas Gifts for Whisky, Wine & Beer Lovers: Handmade in Australia

Handmade timber gifts for whisky, wine and beer lovers at Christmas

Looking for Christmas gifts for whisky, wine or beer lovers? This guide brings together handmade Australian gifts for whisky drinkers, craft beer lovers, wine lovers and home entertainers — all made in my workshop in Chelsea, Victoria.

Every family has one. The person who says “don’t get me anything” and means it, because what they actually want is something good, something useful, and not something that’ll end up in a drawer by February.

Everything here is handmade by me, one piece at a time, from reclaimed barrel staves or solid Australian hardwood. No two pieces are identical, which is sort of the point.

My Recommended Christmas Order Dates

Because everything is made in small batches, I recommend getting your order in early — especially for engraved gifts.

  • Engraved orders: Friday 4 December
  • Standard shipping, non-engraved: Friday 11 December
  • Express shipping, non-engraved: Wednesday 16 December

These are my recommended order-by dates to allow time for making, packing and shipping before Christmas. Shipping is a flat $12 Australia-wide, and free for orders over $175.

For The Whisky Lover

Start with the Barrel Stave Whisky Flight Board. It’s made from a genuine reclaimed oak barrel stave, and you can add three or four Glencairn glasses so it’s ready to pour the moment it’s unwrapped. The board starts from $84.99, or $120.99 with three glasses.

For something they’ll reach for every time they pour a dram, the Barrel Stave Lounge Coaster & Cigar Rest (Glencairn) holds a nosing glass and gives a cigar somewhere to sit that isn’t the edge of the table.

Want it gift-ready? The Coaster & Glass Gift Set comes in a black magnetic gift box with the glass included for $72.99.

More whisky gift ideas are in the Whisky & Spirits collection.

For The Beer Lover

The Barrel Stave Wall-Mounted Bottle Opener ($59.99) is a practical gift that gets used every time a bottle needs opening. Mount it by the fridge or kegerator for a convenient place to open a cold beer. Prefer solid Australian timber? The Hardwood Magnetic Bottle Opener starts at $54.99. Both have a magnetic cap catcher, so there’s no pile of bottle caps gathering underneath.

For the home brewer or keg owner, the Barrel Stave Beer Tap Handle ($44.99) swaps the plastic knob for reclaimed oak with a chalkboard face for the current brew. And for a tasting session, there’s the Barrel Stave Beer Flight Board, from $89.99.

For The Wine Lover

The Hardwood Wine Butler ($44.99) turns a bottle into the centrepiece of the table, available in Blackbutt, Spotted Gum, Ironbark or Forest Red Gum.

Add glasses and a gift box and it becomes the Wine Butler & Glasses Gift Set ($89.99) — an easy ready-to-give option for Christmas.

Short on budget or filling a hamper? The Barrel Stave Bottle Stopper ($19.99) is a small gift that’s a big step up from the plastic ones rattling around every kitchen drawer.

Coasters For Every Drinker

A good coaster is one of the easiest gifts to get right — and one of the easiest to turn into a personalised set.

Choose a few different designs, add engraving, or pair them with a bottle opener for a more substantial gift.

Hardwood Coaster ($14.99): thick Australian timber in Blackbutt or Spotted Gum, with a solid feel that’s a long way from a thin cork square.

Hardwood Coaster with Bottle Opener (from $19.99): solid timber with a built-in opener, available in Blackbutt, Spotted Gum, Ironbark or Forest Red Gum.

Beer Style Slate Coaster (from $14.99): engraved slate in 17 beer styles, from Pale Ale and Kölsch to Bock and Sour Ale. One for the beer lover who knows the difference.

Custom Engraved Slate Coaster ($24.99): square or round, engraved with your design, logo or artwork.

Buy 2 or more and save 10%, or 4 or more and save 15% — applied automatically at checkout, no code needed. See the whole Coasters collection.

Three Tools, One Box

If you can’t decide, the Barrel Stave Bar Tool Trio ($84.99) packs a bottle opener, corkscrew and bottle stopper into a black gift box.

It’s a practical gift that works for whisky, beer and wine lovers alike.

Make It Personal: Engraving

A name, initials or short message engraved directly into the timber or slate turns a nice gift into something made specifically for them.

Text-only engraving: $10
Standard design: $15
Custom design: $25

Engraved orders need a little extra production time, so make sure you allow for that when ordering.

Timber matters too. Blackbutt has a clean, light grain and takes engraving beautifully, which makes it a great choice for names, initials and logos.

Buying For A Team Or A Client?

Corporate gifts, agent closing gifts and staff Christmas presents are a big part of what I make.

Coasters, wine butlers and bottle openers can be engraved with your logo, with volume pricing available for larger orders. They’re a practical alternative to generic promotional merchandise — something clients and staff can actually use at home.

Have a look at the Corporate & Settlement Gifts collection for options, or get in touch if you’re planning a larger order.

Common questions

Are these gift-ready?

Our gift sets arrive boxed, ready to hand over, and I’m happy to include a short note if you’re sending a gift directly to the recipient. Just leave the details at checkout.

How do I look after a timber gift?

Wipe timber pieces clean with a damp cloth and keep them out of the dishwasher. For ongoing care, follow the care instructions supplied with your piece and re-oil or wax when needed.

Slate coasters can be refreshed with a small amount of food-safe mineral oil.

Can I get a logo or custom design engraved?

Yes. Custom designs are $25, and logos for business orders are a flat $10 per piece on bulk orders. Get in touch if you’d like to talk through a larger order.

What are barrel staves, really?

They’re the curved oak planks that made up a real whisky or wine barrel. Each one is reclaimed, then cut, sanded and finished by hand.

The char marks, grain and colour vary from stave to stave, so every finished piece has its own character.
